Water Initiative

SAJCF started its water initiative in 2013 by facilitating the digging of a borehole at Masjid Al Taqwa in Kanifing (KMC) and concrete lined wells at several villages in the North Bank Region (NBR) of the country. The Foundation then continued to build on this work in subsequent years and dug more concrete lined wells and boreholes. Since 2013, the Foundation has dug 17 concrete lined wells and 8 boreholes in the North Bank Region (NBR), Central River Region (CRR) and Upper River Region (URR) in mosques, Quranic schools and rural communities. These water projects have had great impact on the local communities they serve and provide them with accessible clean water; which they lacked prior to its availability. All projects have an educational programme and sustainability model incorporated; to better educate its benefactors about maintaining the equipment long-term and to establish a financial system to ensure future repairs are possible and managed by the beneficiary communities themselves.
